(Solved): Social Psychologist Claude M. Steele describes a stereotype threat as “a standard predicament of life”
Social Psychologist Claude M. Steele describes a stereotype threat as “a standard predicament of life” (540). In response to the subject of stereotype threats, editor Sana Amanat asks of her audience, “Imagine if what we saw in the media reflected a positive portrayal of the group that we belong to.” Author and activist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie speaks of the “dangers of the single story” when she states, “Stories have been used to dispossess and malign, but they can also be used to empower and to humanize.” Think about the different social groups that exist in American society, and the way each group is most commonly presented in popular culture. Choose ONE social group to focus on, and write an argumentative paper in which you convince readers why much of the way this group is presented in popular culture is problematic for that group, and society as a whole.
