Bibliography • Step1. Identify a number of potential topics (5-10) that interest you and prioritize 3 provisionally as your research topics. • Step 2. Develop your Research Question. B. Main essay (9 pages) After brainstorming on your Research Question, conduct a second library search for more sources that address your research question. Use your Research Question as a guide for determining which references are relevant to the discussion of the topic set in your main source, and find a minimum of two additional references that will help you to discuss and answer your Research Question. Review your original 5-10 reference bibliography to determine whether any address your Research Question. Remember that it is difficult to determine whether a particular reference source is exactly helpful for your essay until you have set the terms of your Research Question. Looking for and finding material that shares the same topic is not focused enough for the purposes of engaging in effective bibliographic search. To develop the breadth of your final essay, look for references that have a different position/ a contrary thesis to yours. Outline and summarize these new references and then proceed to develop a criticism of all references to be discussed in your research essay. Since this is a Research Essay, you must be prepared to quote from all your sources; you should also be prepared to explain these quotes within your essay so that your audience will understand the quotes as you do and accordingly will be better prepared to accept your criticism of them as part of your critical research essay. Include a full reference section and use a proper in-test citation style for this essay. You are free to choose the Style Guide for your essay – APA, MLA, or Chicago. Essays not using a proper Style Guide will be penalized with a 10% reduction off the final essay grade. • Develop your final essay outline, incorporating your criticism of each source when developing your argument. • Use your Research Question as the title of this fifth essay. • Finish a draft of your essay and complete a thorough revision.
